How to Post a Picture on Reddit

This guide focuses on posting a picture to a subreddit. Open the exact community first so Reddit can show the post types, title rules, body requirements, flair, and tags that apply there. If you start from the home page, confirm the destination community before adding the image.

Reddit's current community settings let moderators control Text, Links, Images, Galleries, Videos, AMAs, Polls, and Reposts separately. That means seeing image posts in one subreddit does not prove another subreddit accepts them. A community can allow one picture but disable galleries, or allow links without allowing a native image upload.

Read the visible community rules before preparing the file. The picture, title, and context all need to fit the community's topic and submission rules. An available Image button only shows that the format is enabled; it does not approve the subject, promotional intent, or account eligibility.

On the current reddit.com interface, select Create in the upper-right area of the page. From a community page, you can also use Create a post beside the community name. Starting inside the subreddit is the easiest way to keep the destination visible while you prepare the picture.

Add a descriptive title and any useful description the composer allows, then choose the Image option in the rich text editor and select the picture from your device. Review the preview before continuing. If the picture is wrong, replace it before submitting rather than relying on a later edit.

Complete any flair or tags the community requires. Mark mature or spoiler content accurately when those labels apply, then read the final composer messages and select Post only when the destination, picture, title, and rules all match. Reddit notes that not every community shows every editor option, so a missing Image control is not something to bypass.

In Reddit's current Android app, the Create icon is at the bottom of the screen. On iOS it can appear in the upper-right area, and both apps can offer the same action from inside a community. Open the target subreddit first when possible, tap Create, and make sure the correct community remains selected.

To upload a photo to Reddit, use the Image option in the composer and choose the picture through your device's file or photo picker. Reddit changed its mobile upload flow in 2026 so supported devices can use the operating system picker without granting access to the full photo library. The exact picker appearance comes from your phone, but the Reddit post still needs a title and any community-required description, flair, or tags.

Review the image, title, community, and labels before tapping Post. If the Image option is absent, do not assume the app is broken. The selected community may have disabled the format, limited who can post, or added another requirement that Reddit will show in the composer.

When you want to post several pictures together, look for a gallery or multiple-image option in the current composer. Communities control Galleries separately from Images, so a subreddit that accepts one image may still prevent a multiple-picture post.

Reddit describes a gallery as a static slideshow that can include captions and links for individual images. Put the pictures in an order that makes sense without extra explanation, and use captions only for information the viewer genuinely needs. A gallery should support one coherent post, not bundle unrelated pictures to get around a community's posting frequency or topic rules.

If the gallery control is missing, reduce the post to the single picture that best answers the community's need or choose a community and format that explicitly allow the set. Do not upload several separate posts in quick succession just to recreate a gallery manually.

A native image upload places the picture in the Reddit post. A link post sends readers to another page. They are different formats, and Reddit's current community controls let moderators enable Images and Links independently. Do not paste an image-hosting URL as a substitute when the community has intentionally disabled image or link submissions.

Use the title and available description to explain why the picture matters to this specific audience. If the post needs a long explanation, confirm that the community allows the body text you need. Community settings can make body text optional or required and can apply title or body restrictions, so an old tutorial may not match the fields you see today.

For a product screenshot, disclose your connection when it matters and follow the community's promotion rules. The format does not make a promotional post neutral. A useful image, honest context, and a relevant community are all separate checks.

A missing Image option most often means the selected community does not allow that post type for you. Moderators can turn Images and Galleries on or off, restrict posting to approved members, require flair, or apply title and body rules. Mods may still have access to a type that ordinary members cannot use, so seeing a moderator image post is not proof that your account has the same option.

Reddit can also show Poster Eligibility or Post Check guidance while you compose. Eligibility guidance concerns account or community posting conditions; Post Check concerns the content and visible community rules. Read the exact message instead of guessing that the file is the problem or repeatedly submitting the same post.

If the option should be available but the upload itself fails, first reselect the picture and check your connection, then reopen the current composer once. Do not repeatedly change the title, switch to an unrelated community, or turn the picture into a disguised link. If Reddit gives a specific file or policy message, follow that message because limits and interface details can change.

A final review catches mistakes that the upload control cannot. Confirm the exact subreddit, make sure the picture is relevant and understandable, and remove private information that should not be public. Use media you are allowed to share and follow both Reddit's sitewide rules and the community's current instructions.

Then read the title as a community member would. It should describe the picture without clickbait or a hidden sales pitch. Add flair, spoiler, or mature-content labels when required, and treat every warning in Reddit's composer as something to resolve before submitting.
