Karma is the number Reddit builds from upvotes on your posts and comments, and it is one of the account signals Reddit can surface during posting eligibility checks. It is not a payment system, a score you control directly, or proof that a community will keep your post visible.

A high number does not override community rules, and a low number does not tell you exactly why a specific post was blocked. Treat karma as a byproduct of useful participation rather than a goal to optimize on its own.
