Quick answer
To add a photo to a Reddit comment, select the Image icon in the comment box, choose your photo, and add context. Submit with Comment on reddit.com or the send icon in the official iOS and Android apps. If the Image icon is missing, check the community and interface using the troubleshooting table below.
Image posts and image comments have separate settings. A community can allow picture posts without allowing photos in replies; check the comment box, not the new-post composer.
How to add a photo to a Reddit comment on desktop
Open the post on reddit.com. To answer a particular comment rather than the original post, check that comment's reply box first so the image goes into the right branch of the discussion.

How to add a photo to a Reddit comment on mobile
These steps cover the official Reddit apps for iOS and Android. Reddit's Help page does not document a separate workflow for every mobile browser or third-party client.

Why the Image icon is missing from a Reddit comment
Start with the exact comment box where you want to reply. Reddit says the Image icon is absent when a community has disabled image comments or is NSFW. Its community settings documentation also limits media in comments to eligible, non-quarantined, Safe for Work communities.

- What you see

- What to check
- The documented steps cover reddit.com and the official apps
- Next step
- Check the same thread in the official app before concluding the community disabled images
An external image link is not automatic permission to bypass disabled uploads. Check whether the community permits that link format; otherwise, provide a useful text answer.
Replace the wrong image before sending
On reddit.com, select the trash icon in the image's upper-right corner. In the official iOS and Android apps, Reddit says to remove the image with backspace as you would text. Choose the replacement and inspect the final preview before submitting.
Reddit's Help page states a maximum image height and width of 240 pixels. We have not independently tested how Reddit currently handles larger source files, so this is not a claim that you must manually resize every photo or that larger uploads will fail. Check the preview and any message Reddit shows; the cited page does not provide a separate file-size or file-format list.

Check context, privacy, and community rules
Keep the explanation in the same comment as the photo. Say what readers should notice instead of asking them to guess. A screenshot should help answer the thread, not serve as an unrelated advertisement.
Crop or redact private information before uploading, including email addresses, notifications, account details, and location clues. Deleting an image after publication is not a substitute for checking it first. Confirm that you have permission to share the image.
If the image shows your own product or work, disclose that connection and check whether the community allows the topic. Do not disguise a promotional screenshot as an independent recommendation or ask for votes. If the photo does not belong in the discussion, leave it out.

Common questions
Clear answers before you act
Can I add a photo to a reply instead of a top-level comment?
Check the reply box attached to the comment you want to answer. If it offers the Image control, attach the photo there rather than starting a new top-level comment. The same community restrictions still apply.
Can I add an image to a comment in an NSFW subreddit?
Reddit's Help page says image comments are available only in Safe for Work communities. It also says NSFW images in comments are not allowed and will be removed.
Does an old image comment prove that uploads are still allowed?
No. Moderators can disable future media comments while existing ones remain visible. Check the current comment controls and community rules.
